Question for exjws who are now atheist..
by EndofMysteries inthis question is for athiests who had been jw's, and when leaving, had to pretty much start fresh (if most of your association had been jw's).. to help you better answer the question, here is first the reason i am asking it.
my whole life and assocation were jw's only.
when i left, it was at first being pretty isolated while making new friends/etc from scratch.

The elders came by and my DA letter
by Crazyguy inthe lead elder co of my hall said he was going to push for a jc meeting.
i could tell all along all hes interested in is protecting his god the org.. so i'm 90% sure now of going on the offesive and first having a family meeting telling them i'm offically quitting and how its going to play out and how i'll will be shunned even though i have commited no sin.
i also may explain a little of why and how i came to this decision with out bashing the org to much out of respect for my wife.

Very noble, CG, but it plays the game the way the hierachy want it and to the hierachy's advantage.
What is the advantage to you and to the people still in that you will still want to communicate with? Maybe there aren't any people, in which case I understand where you are coming from.

Why send a letter to the are souls who are going to tell your family and friends to shun you? Why do you owe them a letter?
If you feel compelled to write a letter, consider mass mailing it to all of the people that they are going to warn not to talk to you from now on, and don't send a copy to any of the hierachy of this pathetic little cult so that they don't get the opportunity to warn the proles not to read it.
It's like talking to the JW at your door. Never talk to the one that is obviously taking the lead. Address your question to the weakest one and put the psychological pressure on them to be the one to answer you.

To DA myself or to go to JC meeting, that is the question
by Crazyguy ini just got done with another visit at my home with two elders and even though i tried to say very little they took anything they could as a disagreement with them as enough to say they may call a jc meeting after they talk to the rest of the elder body.
so since they are planning on dfing me any way, i'm wondering if i should just write a letter or go through with their meeting?.

They want to protect their flock from you. Handing them a DA letter makes that easy for them. Is that what you want?

I'm the UBM. In today's society, that makes me the normal one.
She is the one that has to cope.

"I don't want to be here when that happens"
by Syme ini recall a memory from a circuit assembly almost a year ago and wanted to share it with you.. .
i had already been in serious doubt (about everything, not only the wts) for over a year, yet at that period of time i conducted 2 bible studies, with some nice young fellows.
at that circuit assembly, on sunday, both studies came: one sat on my left, the other on my right.

I just heard a couple of 80+ Dubs telling each other they don't want to be here for the Big A and that they will be happy to come back and see their departed spouses after it's all over. This is after a lifetime of telling potential converts that it is going to happen in their lifetimes.
Neither mentioned the elephant in the room, that the loved ones they had hoped to live forever with will be untouchable and there is no chance of a bit of leg over with their new, perfect, beautiful, bodies ....... for eternity.

If you're bored, you can play them for as long as you want. Even if you don't want to play with them, you can still tell them you are just starting your computer, then put your phone down and go about your chores for half an hour before checking if they are still there.

Are some JWs justified in staying in the org?
by greendawn inmost of us left the organisation because we could no longer stand one or other aspect of it, perhaps its very dictatorial administration, the disappointment due to the false promises and vain hopes raised by its leadership, disagreement with the blood ban or pedophile and shunning policies, the feel one gets that this is a business and not a religious organisation manipulating its members to its own profit etc etc.
these are of course valid reasons for rejecting this religion and refusing to identify with it but do the jws who stay in have a valid argument for rejecting leaving the org?
they will say: "ok our religion, our society has its flaws but what human society doesn't?

... and caused no harm to anyone.
Herein lies the problem. You might easily portray my JW family as sincere, etc, but there is a trail of broken families and suicides that takes some mental gymnastics to divert the blame solely onto those affected individuals.

Ok, now I know why you atheists get so spittin' mad at some believers.
by Julia Orwell incuz they feel like they're banging their heads against a wall.. i don't really fall into the category of atheist or believer, but i'll go where the facts lead me.
that generally leads to atheism, and is why atheists end up getting mad and therefore rude at believers: they will lay out facts, raise questions, play devil's advocate, and reason in an evidence-based, structured way.
i've seen it many times before on this forum.

Anything too hard to answer is ignored
Don't give them a choice of questions to answer. Pick one. Make it a good one. Already know the official answers. Don't let them change the subject.
"I'll have to do research on that
Get them to promise it by a date. Remind them. Lots. If they want to start another subject, ask why they haven't answered this one. Make them feel guilty for any trickery they are using to weasel their way out of providing you with the research they promised.
Feign being offended that they would try using such a tactic on their own flesh & blood, spouse, whatever you are.
